Aurora VLSI Announces DeCaf, the
Low Power High Performance Java™
Accelerator Core
SANTA
CLARA, Calif., March 20, 2001 – Aurora VLSI, Inc., the
leading supplier of Java acceleration intellectual property (IP), today
announced the availability of the DeCaf low power, high performance Java
coprocessor core.
DeCaf
is a Java acceleration core that when combined with a one-way scalar host
processor to produce a microprocessor chip or System-on-a-Chip (SOC) provides
high performance bilingual Java-bytecode execution at the lowest power
consumption currently available.
DeCaf
Java Accelerator
The DeCaf Java accelerator core runs all Java bytecodes defined in "The
Java Virtual Machine Specification". Its predicted Embedded Caffeine Mark
benchmark (CM3.0) number is 20,000 at 200 MHz and 35,000 at 400 MHz. A
microprocessor developed from a host and a DeCaf Java Accelerator will realize
comparable performance running programs coded in traditional languages (ie. C,
C++) as that of the stand alone host processor at the same frequency and price.
Aurora
VLSI’s Java accelerator bilingual cores can be seamlessly combined with any
RISC or CISC processor core, either one-way scalar, or two-way superscalar to
produce a microprocessor chip or System-on-a-Chip (SOC) that is the fastest at
executing both the native Java bytecodes as well as the native RISC/CISC
instructions without additional hardware or software assistance through
emulation or translation of the Java bytecodes.
DeCaf
Java core IP is immediately available for licensing.
“When the requirements of a mobile device design demand low
power consumption and fast Java application execution, DeCaf is the best choice
for the design-in, “ said Joan Pendleton, President and Co-Founder of Aurora
VLSI.
